WHAT IS PERIODONTAL DISEASE?
Periodontal (gum) disease is an infection of the tissues that hold your teeth in place. This condition begins with a sticky film of bacteria, known as biofilm, to form on the teeth allowing plaque to build up and harden. Once plaque hardens into tartar, it can not be physically removed until it is professionally addressed. The initial symptoms of this disease are swollen, red and bleeding gums. If left untreated, it can spread to bone and surrounding gums. There are several risk factors for gum disease such as smoking, diabetes, and certain illnesses to name a few.

Symptoms To Watch For:

-
Gums may be red, swollen, tender or bleeding.
-
The gums may pull away from the teeth, making the teeth appear longer.
-
Teeth can be loose or sensitive.
-
There may be pain and persistent bad breath.
